« Takaisin ARROW systems improve utilisation rateTekniikka & Talous magazine, April 18, 2002 The machine types used by Wärtsilä Finland Oy in manufacturing marine and power plant engines are quite similar both at Turku and Vaasa factories and, therefore, they can be compared. Pasi Saarikko (Development Manager of modular production in Turku) says that the states of the most important machines at the Vaasa factory can be monitored in real-time via the company's intranet from Turku. The aim of the open information flow is to have utilisation improvements implemented quickly at both locations. The machine time of the machine tools is usually quite expensive, approximately 100 - 200 euros/h. Cost savings and disturbance-free process are sought by improving utilisation rate and usability. "Previously we used another supplier's system at Turku, but when we decided to compare options, we chose this one," says Saarikko. "We have been using this system at the Vaasa factory for several years now." During this year, Wärtsilä is going to expand automated machine monitoring systems also to the production units in Central and Southern Europe. According to Saarikko, fast data transfer to management and R & D personnel is an excellent way to enhance productivity. For further information on Wärtsilä Finland, see www.wartsila.com. « Takaisin
