Novi

“Even though Finn Spring hasn’t had a maintenance system before, and the Novi implementation project was begun from scratch, the customer always had in mind to start using the system as soon and as effectively as possible. In addition, the customer had a clear view on how and why a maintenance system should be used so that it would be as useful as possible in the future. The system was clearly long-awaited among the company managers, supervisors as well as the maintenance mechanics”

”At first we monitored the running and efficiency of the new can line by using a clock and transferred the results into an Excel table. However, this method of measuring took too much time. With Machine Track, the capacity increased from 26500 cans to 33000 cans per hour.”

Kuusakoski acquired their first proper maintenance system as a tool for the maintenance group at the end of the 1990s. Over the years, the system fell behind and ran its course due to usability issues. Thus, the company started to look for a new maintenance system. After careful comparisons, ARROW Novi proved to be the most suitable system for the company’s needs.

In the modern world, proper maintenance management is a prerequisite for efficient operation. When subcontractors and other partners base their work on shared information, there is no need to argue over petty details. With two decades of experience, this is well known at the Valmet Rautpohja factory.

In the shipyard that has been transferred to Meyer’s family the agile completion of hull components and sub-assemblies is facilitated with the Machine Track system. “For example, a couple of years ago we implemented a development project on the bulkhead line based on Lean procedures, in which we utilised the data collected by Machine Track to optimise production. As a result, the production of bulkhead metres was doubled.”

When Luvata decided to acquire the maintenance management software, the initial requirement was that it should work as a tool for the technicians. ”We ended up selecting maintenance management using ARROW Maint software. We had already been using Machine Track, so based on that, the decision felt natural. But the promised quick implementation and flexible customisation were particularly important in the selection.”

“We have over 50 lines connected to the ARROW Machine Track monitoring system. They enable us to see what is going on in the plants in general – not only the machine status, but also the wider entity, including the reasons for possible shutdowns. In that sense this is an important tool in plant development”

One of the main reasons for choosing ARROW was that the software solutions responsible for machine control in production and for service functions in maintenance operate together and in connection to each other. Quick error messages sent directly to the maintenance department set repair work into action immediately. Additionally, Machine Track provides the maintenance department with information about machines causing the most problems and about the seriousness of the flaws with regard to the entire system.

The production of an assembly line, for instance, is usually kept continuous. In the Andon philosophy, when an error occurs, the line is stopped and the reason for the problem is investigated. When the downtime is recorded into the information system, it is possible to systematically deal with the causes.

“We introduced Machine Track in 2007. One of the reasons was to find out the true duration of changeovers in production and to reduce them. We were also interested in the causes and duration of errors”, says process developer Jarkko Helén. He is pleased with the results, because the duration of errors can now be clearly seen.
